Evolutionarily Stable Strategies in Quantum Hawk- Dove Game
Hawk-Dove is an interesting and important game of evolutionary biology. We consider the game from point of view of evolutionarily stable strategies (ESSs). In the classical version of the game only a mixed ESS exists. We find a quantum version of this game where both pure and mixed ESSs can exist.

Evolutionarily Stable Strategy (ESS) in classical game theory is a refinement of Nash equilibrium concept. We investigate the consequences when a small group of mutants using quantum strategies try to invade a classical ESS in a population engaged in symmetric bimatrix game of Prisoner’s Dilemma. Secondly we show that in an asymmetric quantum game between two players an ESS pair can be made to ...

The well known refinement of the Nash Equilibrium (NE) called an Evolutionarily Stable Strategy (ESS) is investigated in the quantum Prisoner’s Dilemma (PD) game that is played using an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen type setting. Earlier results report that in this scheme the classical NE remains intact as the unique solution of the quantum PD game. In contrast, we show here that interestingly in thi...

Using the idea that life-history parameters are subject to natural selection and should approach values that are stable optima, with the population immune to invasion by mutant individuals, we derive an analytic expression for the evolutionarily stable dispersal rate in a stochastic island model with random site extinction. The results provide interesting contrasts between three different optim...

In 1973 the biologist John Maynard Smith and the mathematician G. R. Price wrote an article in Nature showing how game theory applies to the behavior of animals (Maynard Smith and Price 1973). Maynard Smith went on to write a book on the subject (Maynard Smith 1982), which has become a classic. The idea of applying game theory to animals, and not just the higher primates, but fish, dung beetles...
